Plan beyond the fence line

Steel fencing for yards, pools & entrances

Start with the purpose of the fence and how people use the property. Choose the product and layout around those needs.

Yards & pets

Open pickets define the boundary while keeping views through the yard. Discuss your pet’s size and behavior, bottom gaps, and gate operation.

Ornamental fencing provides little visual privacy. For solid screening, compare wood fencing →

Pool areas

Review the complete barrier and gate against local requirements: height, openings, ground clearance, and nearby features all matter.

A product name, decorative spear, or gallery photo does not establish compliance. Include closing and latching hardware in the plan.

A clear scope. A useful estimate.

What affects steel fence installation cost?

Fence length, height, grade, finish, gates, removal, and site access affect the installed price. Compare estimates for the same product and complete scope.

Slopes, drainage, and Georgia red clay need a site-specific plan. Discuss whether the selected panels can follow the grade, where stepped sections may be needed, and how gates will clear the ground.

Confirm boundaries, easements, HOA requirements, utility coordination, and responsibility for approvals before work starts.

Protect the finish. Check the moving parts.

Steel fence care & corrosion protection

Protective coatings help steel resist corrosion. Montage uses galvanized steel with a factory-applied coating system. Damage, exposed cut edges, and neglected hardware still need attention.

Follow the selected manufacturer’s care instructions. Keep vegetation from growing against the fence, check hinges and latches, and report damaged coating or corrosion early.

Cutting, drilling, welding, and touch-up work require the correct product-specific method. Ask the team before modifying panels or attaching mesh and accessories.

Steel and aluminum are different systems. Compare aluminum fencing → when weighing appearance, care, and the needs of your property.

Steel fencing FAQs

How much does a steel fence cost?

The installed price depends on fence length, height, grade, finish, gates, removal, and site access. Request a written estimate that identifies the product, layout, and included work. Compare the same system and scope across quotes.

Is ornamental steel the same as wrought iron?

No. The steel systems shown here are ornamental steel fencing, not a claim of traditional wrought-iron construction. They can provide a similar decorative appearance. Confirm the actual material, coating, and product in your estimate.

Will a steel fence rust or need maintenance?

Protective coatings help steel resist corrosion, but damaged finishes, exposed edges, and hardware still need attention. Follow the selected manufacturer’s instructions, inspect the fence periodically, and address coating damage promptly. Ask before cutting, welding, or adding attachments.

Can steel fencing be used around a pool or for pets?

The full fence and gate configuration must suit the intended use. Review height, picket openings, ground gaps, and gate hardware. Confirm applicable pool requirements for the site and discuss your pet’s size and behavior. A product name or photo alone does not establish suitability.

Can steel fencing follow slopes and include gates?

The selected system and site grade determine whether panels can follow the slope or need a different layout. Review gaps below panels, drainage, and gate clearance. Plan gate opening width, posts, and compatible hardware with the fence.
