A new fence feature is useful when it solves a real problem. Before choosing a fashionable material or connected gate, decide what matters most: privacy, access, pet containment, appearance, or less refinishing work.
The options below are design directions to consider, not a ranking of the market or a promise that Precision Fenceworks supplies every technology. Confirm the selected product and project scope before planning around it.
Lower-maintenance materials with clear tradeoffs
Vinyl and composite fencing can appeal to owners who want to reduce routine wood refinishing. That does not make either maintenance free. Gates, connections, surface buildup, impacts, and drainage still deserve attention.
Compare the actual panel style, color, reinforcement, warranty, and replacement parts. Trex states that its composite fencing uses 95% recycled wood and plastic, but that product-specific claim should not be extended to all composite or vinyl fences.

Contemporary layouts without sacrificing function
Horizontal boards, contrasting frames, and mixed open-and-private sections can change how a yard feels. Start with the views you want to screen and the views you want to keep. A solid boundary everywhere may not be necessary.
Ask how the pattern handles slopes, corners, gates, and shorter end sections. Review the view from both sides. A good detail should still work where the fence meets the house or changes direction, not only in the middle of a display panel.
Connected gates that fit daily use
Keypads, intercoms, and app-based access can reduce the inconvenience of a controlled entrance when the chosen equipment supports them. List your users and access needs first, then verify connectivity, subscriptions, outage behavior, and support.
Automation needs a safety plan for the complete gate. LiftMaster’s guidance emphasizes entrapment protection and separate pedestrian access. Convenience features cannot replace required protective devices or proper installation.
Environmental claims you can actually compare
Ask for documentation of recycled content, sourcing, treatment, and any certification being advertised. Keep product claims tied to that exact product. “Natural,” “recycled,” and “local” do not independently establish that one complete fence has a lower environmental impact.
Consider repairability and disposal alongside initial material choice. Can a damaged panel be replaced without rebuilding the run? Where can the old material go? A longer list of green-sounding features does not answer those practical questions.
Design the fence around the landscape
Plan access for mowing, pruning, drainage maintenance, and deliveries. Avoid crowding a new fence with plantings that make repairs difficult. Choose gate locations before the landscape plan becomes expensive to change.
Privacy screens, lighting, and accessories may affect wind exposure, height, or maintenance. Have additions reviewed with the supporting fence rather than treating them as harmless decorations.
Use a short decision brief
Bring three things to a consultation: photos of the look you like, a list of the problems the fence should solve, and an honest upkeep preference. Add your approximate length, gate needs, and budget range. That gives an installer something concrete to compare.
Browse fencing options and gate designs to narrow the choices. A well-specified conventional fence can be a better fit than a feature-rich system that does not suit your property.
